Finn Selander, a retired DEA agent in New Mexico and Florida who now lives in Phoenix, explains why he supports our campaign and the efforts to end marijuana prohibition in Arizona. One of the many reasons for supporting this initiative is that it will make our communities safer. This measure will take marijuana out of the hands of criminals in the underground market and put it behind the counters of licensed businesses that only sell to adults and properly test, package, and label their products. It will also allow law enforcement officials to spend more time addressing serious crimes instead of enforcing failed prohibition laws. “A few years ago I decided it was time to leave the DEA. After targeting low-level offenders for petty marijuana violations, it no longer seemed a job worth doing. I support the effort underway to allow adults to legally use marijuana. In part this is because marijuana is safer than alcohol and it doesn’t make sense to punish people who use it. But more importantly, I support regulating the production and sale of marijuana so that we can deliver a serious blow to the powerful cartels that cause so much crime and violence in Arizona.” Check out Finn’s piece that ran on the Arizona Republic. | ||||||||
